Dealing With Disobedient Dogs

Has your dog ever gone out of their way to make your life miserable? Perhaps they cause a fuss when in public or maybe they simply don’t listen to your commands. Maybe you’re embarrassed to take your dog out for a walk because they never listen to you and may even bother other people. If this sounds like a situation you’re in, then this short post will teach you a couple of ways to deal with a disobedient dog.

Incomplete Training

Your dog’s disobedience could be the result of incomplete training. If you’ve never hired a dog trainer or if you’ve not done your own personal training with your dog, then there’s a good chance that your dog is disobedient simple because they don’t fully understand your commands yet. It’s a good idea to undertake a full training course with your dog to ensure that it’s not being caused by a lack of training. Dog training can be done alone if you have the right plan, but it’s a lot more convenient to hire a dog trainer to help you get the work done, especially if you already find it hard to make time to play with your dog. Dog training can also be done with the help of family members, and this will also familiarise your dog with the rest of your family.

Misunderstanding Your Dog

Keep in mind that you may just be misunderstanding your dog. There’s a big difference between a dog that is disobeying your orders and simply being excited. Many of the traits that your dog is displaying may eventually stop with enough training and care. In fact, puppies are known to be unruly until after 6 or 9 months of being with their new owners. Until then, puppies are hard to control and difficult to train, which is why it’s best to hire a dog trainer or at least consider learning how to train your dog during this time. Hyperactivity is also a disorder that can exist in dogs, although it’s rare. If you feel like this is a problem that your dog is experiencing, then it can be worth visiting a vet to try and diagnose this issue. Through testing and examinations, a vet can help you learn more about your dog’s behaviour issues. In most cases, an energetic dog is caused by not getting enough exercise or play in their day. If you aren’t walking your dog or playing with them much, then they’ll have lots of pent-up energy that has to be used somehow.

Some Final Words

In most cases, dogs can become more obedient with a little training and some care. Initial problems can be solved with just a quick visit to the vet, but if they determine that your dog has more underlying issues then they may be prescribed medication or a more rigorous training routine. A dog that is disobedient is nothing to ignore, so make sure you notice the signs early so that you can fix the problem as early as possible.
